The name is a throwback to the days when Russian travelers were a substantial fraction of Viareggio’s tourist trade; today the Plaza e de Russie retains a bit of its original Belle Époque glamour, but underneath it all it’s a stylish and contemporary boutique hotel — and, needless to say, one with global appeal. The key to that, paradoxically, is its local appeal; between the beach and the Puccini connection, Viareggio is one of a kind. And in Tuscany, the cuisine is always a highlight — the hotel’s own Ristorante Lunasia is led by the Michelin-starred chef Luca Landi.
