Today's Grand Hotel Contintental is Siena's top luxury hotel, and the only hotel of its kind in the heart of the city, just off the pedestrian-only Piazza del Campo. The building was converted from a grand aristocratic residence, the seventeenth-century Palazzo Gori, and has been restored and refurbished — but not redesigned. All of the original details remain, the frescoes are brighter than ever, and the ballroom is as grand as it must have been three hundred years ago.
The rooms are every bit as opulent as the public spaces, each one individually designed, with frescoed or beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, and period artworks and furnishings — though modern touches like internet access and satellite TV make this a modern hotel. The restaurant, Sapordovino, is splendidly set beneath the palazzo's glass-domed courtyard, and the wine bar is a surprisingly stylish option. The only caveat, owing to the space restrictions in Siena's historic downtown — though the hotel does offer such niceties as a swimming pool and tennis courts, these are actually a short shuttle ride away, at the Grand Hotel Continental's sister property on the outskirts of town.

Location is perfect. Hotel itself is beautiful. Staff exceptionally nice and helpful.

Accueil extraordinaire. Personnel prévenant, gentil et s’assurant de vous apporter le meilleur service. Hôtel extrêmement bien situé avec accès possible en voiture. Hôtel calme. Dommage que les chambres soient un peu vieillottes y compris le mobilier. Le lit cependant était très bon et la propreté très bien. Petit déjeuner bien : Manque juste la possibilité de demander des œufs à son goût. ( il n’y a que des œufs brouillés) . A besoin de rénovations pour se mettre au norme d’un palace alors que les tarifs sont élevés. Mention cependant toute spéciale pour le personnel . Un grand bravo sur ce point là.
The moment I entered this hotel I knew I was in an exceptional property. I couldn't received a more gracious welcoming. All the benefits of my Tablet Plus were outlined on writing and honored. I received a tour of the premises and what a stunning place it is: A Renaissance Palazzo with all the splendor that the name conjures and all the benefits of modern times. My room was elegant and grand and at the same time cozy and extremely comfortable. When you open the windows you were rewarded with a most beautiful view of Siena The bathroom spacious and with all the marble that you expect from a five star hotel. In a city with glorious food, I highly recommend the restaurant at the hotel. Delicious meals with a most attentive service and glorious Tuscan wines. The beauty of the place combined with the most gracious hospitality made my stay a memorable experience. I can't wait to be back.
