Planted just where the city of Nara gives way to the ancient woodlands of Nara Park, Fufu Nara preserves the exquisite balance between the divine and the natural that has drawn pilgrims and tourists to the area for more than a millennium. The décor marries inky, ageworn wood with sea tones under the gentle flicker of lanterns — hallmarks of the regional azekura style, easing the transition outdoors, where each room enjoys a private hot-spring onsen. It’s a great spot to end up after scaling a sacred mountain or two, or even a simple hike, and it’s made all the better by the addition of traditional herbal treatments.
