Milan’s canals may not be the equal of Venice’s, but that doesn’t make Maison Borella’s waterside setting any less special. This charming 18th-century building, with its interior courtyard and its hybrid historic-contemporary interior design, offers a welcome break from Milan’s urban pace, as well as its prevailing ultra-polished aesthetic. The rooms and suites are full of character, and are more spacious than you might ordinarily expect. Bugandè, the restaurant, offers indoor and outdoor seating, season permitting; meanwhile you’re just to the southwest of the city center, with easy access to all Milan’s best.
