Lure Hotel

Almost all of Malta’s impressive crop of luxury boutique hotels have been built in and around Valletta, the capital city. But this island has charms that are capable of tempting you away from the crowd. And while we’re not certain that’s why it’s called Lure Hotel & Spa, the upshot is the same: a compelling hospitality reason to venture into the island’s north, to the picturesque village of Mellieħa.

And if the word “village” leads you to expect something rustic, prepare to be surprised. The rooms and suites are nothing if not glamorous, combining Art Deco elegance with modernist furnishings and fixtures. The smallest rooms spread out over 35 square meters, with plenty of space for oversized four-poster beds, while the suites grow to twice that size or more.

The vibe throughout is refined, owing perhaps to the adults-only policy; the spa, in particular, is a tranquil oasis, as is the small but extremely stylish indoor pool. And while there’s plenty in the way of restaurants in the surrounding area, there’s not much as artfully crafted as what you’ll find at Lure’s table — whether in the dining room or outside on the terrace.
