Burgundy is full of family-run hotels, but there’s something especially warm and welcoming about Maison Doucet. It’s due in part to the fact that this riverfront house was the childhood home of the owner, chef Frédéric Doucet. Like his menus, built around local and seasonal ingredients, the hotel is grounded in its place — and like the village of Charolles, nicknamed Little Venice for its romantic canals and footbridges, Maison Doucet is nothing if not pretty and peaceful.
Rooms and suites and bright and character-filled with original wood-beamed celings, cozy king-sized beds, and sleek, smartly outfitted bathrooms, some with freestanding tubs. The décor is mostly white, save for parquet floors and pops of color including patterned headboards and jewel-toned accent walls. In addition to a full spa, the grounds feature an outdoor swimming pool and a six-seater Jacuzzi. The wine country is a key element of the appeal, as is, of course, Mr. Doucet’s one-MICHELIN-Star restaurant.
