In an artsy Athens neighborhood not far from the Temple of Hephaestus, there’s a centuries-old stone building with a colorful past: once a brothel, it later served as a barn, an army barracks, and later a film studio. Today it’s home to the elegant, character-filled NOT Hotel. The name is an acronym — NOT stands for No Ordinary Things — an apt description of the eclectic project, its carefully restored interiors enlivened by glamorous 1920s-inspired details. Set around a picturesque central courtyard planted with olive trees, flowers, and herbs are rooms and suites with exposed brick or stone walls, antique writing desks, patterned throw rugs, and marble bathrooms with walk-in showers. Other highlights include a stylish outdoor swimming pool and a culinary program centering around house-made olive oil and locally produced wines.
