Briefly upstaged during the golden age of air travel in favor of balmier destinations, the Adirondacks are resurgent; a place like the Saranac Waterfront Lodge, a half-day’s drive from New York City, offers the kind of natural splendor that’s still upstate New York’s most attractive resource. The town of Saranac Lake is bisected, somewhat confusingly, by Lake Flower, on whose shores the Saranac Waterfront Lodge stands. It’s been well kept up over the years, and is now exactly what it looks like: a contemporary interpretation of a classic lakeside grand hotel, with all the facilities and activities that that implies.
