The clifftop village of Ravello, as the old saying goes, is closer to heaven than the sea. And while the views over the Amalfi Coast are fantastic from anywhere in town, they’re especially astonishing from the 11th-century Hotel Villa Cimbrone. Its famous Terrazza dell’Infinito, or Terrace of Infinity, overlooks the Bay of Sorrento, as do many of the luxury hotel’s rooms and suites.
Inside, they’re bright and ornately decorated with frescoed ceilings, stone fireplaces, and antique majolica tile floors; many have private terraces or balconies facing the sea. Despite the museum-like interiors, the hotel’s real draw is outside — and while some of the grounds are open to admission-paying tourists by day, the best parts are exclusively for guest use, including private English gardens and a gorgeous pool framed by avocado trees. A collection of glamorous restaurants and bars, including the one-MICHELIN-Star Il Flauto di Pan, adds to the old-world grandeur.
