MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Even if you’ve got a reasonably complete working knowledge of the major Greek island destinations, you might not know Zakynthos. It’s the next one down from Kefalonia, on the Ionian side of the Peloponnese — and, more importantly, it’s a perfect little jewel of a place, featuring the ludicrously beautiful Navagio Beach among its dramatic landforms and seascapes. And, as you might have guessed, it’s the setting for an extraordinary hotel: Porto Zante Villas & Spa, a luxury resort just above a private beach, blessed with extraordinary sea views, elegant contemporary interiors, and all the high-end comforts you could reasonably wish for.

Villas range from one to four bedrooms, but all of them deal in the same extravagances: private pools, immediate beach access, sprawling bedrooms, and luxe furnishings by the likes of Gervasoni and Armani Casa. Bathrooms come with Jacuzzi tubs and separate rain showers, and there’s ample space for lounging or entertaining. If that weren’t enough, there’s also a lavish spa, a kids’ club, and facilities for all manner of water sports, as well as horseback riding, tennis, and beachfront yoga. The Club House Restaurant serves high-end Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, while Maya Restaurant serves sushi and sashimi fresh from the Ionian sea; safe to say Porto Zante knows how to play to its setting’s strengths.

Please note: Porto Zante Villas & Spa is a small property with only 15 rooms. Book early as rooms sell out quick.
