For sheer ornate grandeur there’s no beating the Romantic castles of the 19th century. Château Rhianfa is a tribute to the Loire Valley, even as it stands on the Menai Strait, looking back at the Welsh mainland. Its 27 well-equipped bedrooms are no less fantastic than its exteriors — the style in the castle rooms is a contemporary re-imagining of the Victorian era, with hyper-saturated colors, while the Lodge rooms and Cottage suites are just a touch more rustic. Afternoon tea is a popular diversion, and the restaurant, Le Dragon Rouge, makes the most of the local produce of Anglesey and Snowdonia.
