MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
Just across the Main from its sister hotel, Lindenberg Rückertstraße, Libertine Lindenberg signals with its name a slightly more freewheeling approach to the communal-hotel idiom. That’s due in part to its setting in Frankfurt’s cobblestoned Alt-Sachsenhausen district — AKA the “apple cider district” due to its classic taverns and museums, though a younger and more avant crowd has taken up residence as of late. The Libertine fits right in, that is, every inch of its arty, cozy personality a quiet rebuke to Frankfurt’s buttoned-up, businesslike image.
The individually designed suites span seven floors, trending more towards warm, sun-drenched texture than excess. Custom, handmade fittings, furnishings, and knick-knacks are the rule: oversize wall hangings and eccentric lamps liven up the skylit pastels, balanced underfoot by woven carpets and plenty of polished hardwood. If you want to get zany, press a button to listen in on recording sessions at the in-house studio — or book a private session of your own.
Food is huge here, thankfully, and quite readily available; besides the upstairs kitchen with personal nooks for each guest, there’s a living-room café (lean back to take in Dennis Rudolph’s entrancing ceiling fresco) and a 24-hour in-house grocery called Lekker. Stock up there on produce from Libertine’s own biodynamic farm, piquant spices, and a whole range of themed home accessories because why not. If you’re feeling a bit rusty with kitchenware, drop in on a Wednesday cooking course, or skip straight to cocktails at the make-it-yourself bar and let the chef handle the heavy lifting. That’s how it is here — you dictate the pace and they’ll deliver. Anything from white-glove service to hands-off DIY goes at Libertine.
