Around the corner from Ioannina Castle, an old stone archway leads into the elegant Stoes Boutique Hotel. This mansion dates back to the late 19th century, and much of its old-world character has been preserved, but the hotel’s aesthetic is clean and contemporary — high ceilings, whitewashed walls, gleaming black-and-white tiled floors, a well-placed chandelier.
The simplest rooms are refined but austere, quiet and cloister-like with exposed stone walls, parquet floors, dark wood furniture, and minimalist bathrooms with walk-in showers; some also have balconies or striking modern fireplaces. Upper-level suites feature spacious living rooms with Chesterfield sofas and lavish bathrooms lined in decorative tile.
Among its public spaces are a sunny terrace as well as an all-day restaurant and a bar; the whole of historic Ioannina, meanwhile, is close at hand, and offers no end of complementary options.
