MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Alsace might not be the first place you’d look for a Nordic-style landscape hotel, but 48° Nord’s founder, landscape architect Emil Leroy-Jönsson, is both French and Danish, and along with Norwegian architect Reiulf Ramstad he sought to explore the connections between the Alsatian and Scandinavian cultures. Tall, narrow, minimalist cabins in bare wood elevate guests above the treetops of a protected site, for far-ranging views of the countryside; inside is Nordic modernism at its warmest and most organic. Some come equipped with Jacuzzis or saunas. Felles Hytte, the central lodge, serves breakfast and dinner, again with views of the hillsides.
