Family-run B&Bs and budget-friendly inns dominated Bozeman’s hotel scene for decades, but the gateway to Yellowstone National Park, once a sleepy rural village, has undergone a makeover in recent years. Alongside the upscale restaurants and shops that have popped up downtown is the Kimpton Armory Hotel Bozeman. Just off lively Main Street in a 1940s-era Art Deco building that once used the Bozeman National Guard, the Kimpton claims to be the first luxury boutique hotel in town —though, given its instant popularity, it’s unlikely to be the last.
Inside, the hotel is sophisticated and modern with rugged details — hand-stitched leather and wood, a rooftop fire pit, a basement whiskey bar — that are in keeping with the building’s past and the destination itself, a hub for outdoor adventure. Rooms are elegant but down-to-earth, featuring custom beds with Frette linens, warm lighting, large workspaces, cozy throws and pillows in plaid flannel, and minibars stocked with local treats. Bathrooms are as sleek as you'd expect at a Kimpton hotel, as are other amenities the brand is known for: an evening happy hour, a 24-hour fitness center, and complimentary bicycles. Other highlights include the outdoor pool on the terrace, conveniently heated year-round, loaner snowshoes and sleds, and the rooftop bar with views of the Rocky Mountains — there’s even a pop-up winter chalet where you can warm up with a glass of wine while protected from the elements.
