The MICHELIN Guide presents its first nationwide selection for the Czech Republic. Revealed on December 11 in Mariánské Lázně, this latest Guide highlights the Czech Republic as a must-visit for gourmets, featuring restaurants from all over the country.
Overall, there are nine MICHELIN-Starred restaurants, while 18 Bib Gourmand establishments are recognized for their outstanding value, and four Green Star recipients are honored for their responsible approaches to gastronomy. With a total of 79 restaurants, this year’s national selection reflects the impressive diversity of culinary styles to discover in the Czech Republic, many of which draw inspiration from the country’s history and culture. Local specialties are creatively reinterpreted whilst maintaining reverence for tradition, resulting in dishes that are light, balanced and easy to eat. Chefs give pride of place to local produce, enlivened with international culinary techniques. Furthermore, many high-end restaurants are utilizing their own kitchen gardens, or maintain close relationships with local farmers, fish breeders and artisans. The Czech Republic also offers an array of celebrated beers and excellent wines which deserve plenty of attention.
“With its unique blend of tradition and modernity, Czech gastronomy invites local gourmets and visitors from around the world to discover new culinary possibilities. After highlighting Prague, we are now proud to showcase the gastronomic landscape of the entire country through this new selection, and to commend the restaurants of the Czech Republic for their skill, dedication and commitment in their pursuit of quality,” comments Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of The MICHELIN Guide. “Our Inspectors scoured the country from north to south and east to west in search of the best restaurants.
