The Sukhothai Shanghai is the long-awaited sequel to the iconic hotel of the same name in Bangkok, and it’s possessed of a grandeur that’s well suited to the occasion. While it’s more urban in setting than its Thai inspiration, it’s been imbued by virtuoso designers Neri and Hu with a tranquil, nature-reflecting atmosphere, and however ultra-modern it may be, it retains an impressive organic warmth. As for facilities and comforts, it’s in the top tier; there’s a lavish and dramatic Thai-style spa with products by Thermae, and even La Scala, the Italian restaurant, makes the trip from Bangkok to Shanghai.
