A number of Italian hotels are connected to wineries, but this one is a little different. Zash Country Boutique Hotel & Spa is set within the stone walls of a retired winery. The grape-growing part is no longer in operation — locally produced wines still flow freely here, rest assured — so you can actually sleep in the atmospheric former wine cellar, which has been gloriously restored, or in the old manor house facing Mount Etna and the ocean, or out amid the vineyards in glass-encased suites framed with citrus trees. There’s a rustic elegance to all sixteen suites, and the hotel features a small spa, a good restaurant, complimentary bikes for exploring the countryside, and a wide terrace that’s perfect for relaxing with a glass of Nero d’Avola after a day out on the nearby beach or touring the wine country.
