Sister City
That said, Sister City is quiet, despite the fact that, with entrances on Bowery and Freeman Alley, it could hardly be more auspiciously located. The rooms start out small — bento boxes indeed — but are plenty comfortable, in their austere way. Bigger rooms feature a quartet of bunk beds, perfect for a traveling band, and at the high end you can score a king bed or a terrace with a view of the city.
Given the location, Sister City is under no illusion that it needs to offer a totally self-contained experience — the Lower East Side is well known for its nightlife and its restaurant scene. The hotel’s offerings, however, are more than worthy of the neighborhood, from Floret, the garden-patio restaurant by award-winning chef Joe Ogrodnek, to Last Light, an 11th-floor bar with indoor and outdoor seating. “Less, but Better” is Sister City’s motto, and it’s one we imagine will resonate with more than a few guests.
