German modernism is generally traced to locations farther north, but in Munich, Schwan Locke pays tribute to Deutscher Werkbund, a precursor to Bauhaus and an aesthetic whose borrowings from Arts and Crafts make it eminently suited for a boutique hotel that’s both attractive and livable. Its vibrant colors enliven its residential-style studios and suites, all of which contain kitchens and are served by shared living areas. A well-equipped gym, a comfortable co-working space, a coffee shop, and a “Millennial bistro” round out the offerings — it’s a remarkably self-sufficient experience and a memorably stylish one at that.
