The Hoxton, Downtown LA
The Hoxton hotels are also known for faithfully tailoring the concept to the setting, and here that means something a little softer than the usual warehouse-chic. The building is a 1922 Beaux-Arts beauty, and its interiors are appropriately ornamented with delicate molding, chevron floors, and printed wallpapers — produced, in East London style, by House of Hackney. Sizes range from Cozy to Biggy, and they’re all accurately named. But even the coziest don’t feel cramped, thanks to thoughtful layouts and luxe touches like Marshall bedside radios and hand-selected books.
As in all the Hoxton hotels, there’s a decided emphasis on the public spaces. In L.A. they’re crafted with help from AIME Studios, and the results are impressive: Moonlark’s Dinette takes the classic American diner to a much more stylish place, while Cabra, on the rooftop, serves Peruvian-inspired bites with a bar that spills out onto the terrace by the pool.
