True to its name, this is a properly lit hotel. The Turkish sun finds its way indoors through large windows, a sky-lit atrium, and a high-design mix of light fixtures. All of this complements a neutral, calming color palette: the decor itself is 50 shades of brown, which lets the light, well, shine. This 56-room hotel is on the small size, but it’s not so small that you’ll lack anonymity if you want it. FER’s location, on the European side of the city, is very much a gateway to all the places you’ll want to visit during your visit. The famous Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are both a scenic 10-minute walk east through the heart of historic Istanbul. The Grand Bazaar is a 10-minute walk in the opposite direction. But if you just want to gaze upon the city from a good perch, stop by FER’s rooftop restaurant — be sure to snag a table outside on the terrace.
