Village by BOA

The boom in Portuguese hospitality has given rise to a striking diversity of hotels, from pretty little Lisbon apartments to sprawling coastal resorts, and everything in between. Still, there’s nothing else quite like Village by BOA. This corner of Porto is known for its distinctive terrace-style townhouses, designed in the 19th century as housing for workers’ families. And after a long period of disuse, five of these houses have been transformed by BOA and Bacana Design Studio into a luxurious and stylish collection of apartment-style hotel suites.

Though the houses themselves are antique in style, the interiors are unmistakably contemporary; the materials and surfaces are warm and organic, while the furniture, in its elegant simplicity, recalls Scandinavian and Japanese styles of design. Every unit comes with plentiful lounge space as well as a proper, fully equipped kitchen, and high-tech necessities like wi-fi and a smart television.

A restaurant is beyond Village by BOA’s remit; those kitchens can be supplied by the hotel’s market, stocked with local products. And though the setting may feel like a secluded little village, this is the middle of Porto — restaurants abound in every direction, and your hosts are quick with a recommendation.
