Dani García’s Dubai is Family-Friendly and Fantastic

Discover chef Dani’s favourite places around Dubai.

For celebrated Spanish chef Dani García, Dubai has long been a second home and since bringing his two iconic dining concepts Leña and the one MICHELIN star Smoked Room to St. Regis Gardens, Palm Jumeirah, his connection to the city has only deepened. Both interconnected restaurants originated in Madrid, combining Andalusian tradition with innovation to create unique experiences rooted in flame-grilled cooking. Now, Dani shares his personal connection to this dynamic city, revealing his favourite spots and how its energy continues to inspire his cuisine.

“Dubai is a truly special place for me because it’s a family destination, where we’ve celebrated Christmas and New Year on several occasions. The truth is, I love everything – the beach, the pools, the golf courses, the restaurants with amazing cuisine and, of course, for my daughter who lives here and my family, who are big on shopping, it’s fantastic.”

When it comes to dining in Dubai, Dani García admits the city leaves him spoilt for choice, making it almost impossible to pick a favourite. Here’s a look at some of his top spots:

For family favourites: Zuma or Nobu

“It’s hard to choose a favourite restaurant, but if I were to vote with my family or do a poll, it would be Zuma or Nobu. We’re big fans of Japanese food and that type of atmosphere and restaurant that transforms the experience. So, without a doubt, my family would vote for one of them.”

Recommended by the MICHELIN Guide, Nobu offers a dreamy blend of Japanese-Peruvian flavours from chef Nobu Matsuhisa, with a choice of omakase or à la carte in its serene garden setting. Meanwhile, the MICHELIN-selected Zuma brings a sleek, contemporary vibe to the heart of the city, just steps from the towering Burj Khalifa.

For a quick bite: Kokoro

“I really like Kokoro. You go in, eat great food and head home. Kokoro is definitely one of my favourites for that.”

Tucked away in Al Quoz, Kokoro is the UAE’s first hand roll bar. With chefs Daniel Lee (aka Ducky) and Patrick Pham at the helm, everything is made fresh to order, from the hand rolls to the sushi. Using fresh fish, house-made sauces and warm, flavour-packed rice, Kokoro delivers a dining experience that breaks all the traditional rules of sushi.

For Asian delights: Hakkasan or TakaHisa

“As I mentioned earlier, both Zuma and Nobu are excellent, but I would also add Hakkasan. These are just some of the places I really like, but there are many more. I would also recommend TakaHisa.”

The one MICHELIN star Hakkasan, located in Atlantis, The Palm, is the go-to spot for Chinese cuisine. Blending contemporary flair with ancient traditions, its menu is a vibrant celebration of Cantonese flavours in a sophisticated setting.

The MICHELIN-selected TakaHisa has earned its place among Dubai’s finest with authentic sushi, premium A5 Kobe Beef and seafood flown in fresh from Tokyo’s Toyosu Fish Market.

For traditional Arabic fare: Al Safadi

“My daughter recommended Al Safadi to me, and it has become one of my favourites. We often order from there, including delivery to our home or the hotel we’re staying in.”

Al Safadi is renowned for serving authentic Lebanese cuisine with a comforting, homemade touch. Breakfast features classics like creamy labneh, a variety of egg dishes and hummus topped with spiced meat and pine nuts. For lunch, favourites include freshly baked manakish, an assortment of hot and cold mezze, and their signature shawarma.

For fast food: Shake Shack

“Without a doubt, Shake Shack is one of my favourite franchises of all.”

Shake Shack is a New York-born burger joint that’s made its mark around the world, with plenty of spots to grab a bite in Dubai. Famous for its juicy burgers on pillowy soft buns, it also dishes out crispy chicken, loaded hot dogs and creamy hand-spun shakes.

For coffee: KONCRETE

“I’m a big fan of KONCRETE, but it’s the matcha that really stands out. It’s not your average cup.”

KONCRETE is a cool hangout for great coffee and good vibes. Part coffee house, part concept store, it’s a spot to work, catch up with friends or just unwind. The menu keeps it simple with sandwiches like the tuna togarashi with chili mayo and the Middle Eastern falafel, plus desserts that are always changing. And, of course, there’s no shortage of coffee, tea and even mocktails.

Go-to hotel: Jumeirah Mina Al Salam

“My and my wife’s favourite hotel is Jumeirah Mina Al Salam, by far. We feel right at home there - it’s super peaceful, the facilities are great and there are so many restaurants around. And, above all, the beach is definitely one of the main reasons we always choose that area.”

Translating to ‘the harbour of peace’, Jumeirah Mina Al Salam is a serene escape with an authentic Arabic boutique charm. Each spacious, newly refurbished room comes with a balcony and stunning sea views, making it a favourite among travellers seeking warmth and hospitality. As part of the Madinat Jumeirah resort, guests can enjoy over 40 food and beverage outlets, countless pools and a variety of entertainment options. Complemented by tranquil waterways, a luxurious spa and plenty of space for families, couples and groups, it’s a retreat that blends relaxation with endless possibilities.
