Palazzo Avino

Via San Giovanni del Toro 28, Ravello, Italy
43 Rooms
Traditional Elegance & Quiet
A thousand feet high on a hilltop in Ravello, with a spectacular view of the Amalfi Coast, Palazzo Avino is at once charmingly ancient and sparklingly new: while this 12th-century palace has been one of Europe’s top hotels, in various forms, since the 1880s, its most recent renovation leaves it looking beautifully ageless, its rooms and suites a heady blend of antique styles and focused contemporary colors. Eclectic artworks, many of them modern and contemporary, add another dimension of visual depth; none of it, however, distracts from the astonishing views.

A few of the rooms catch glimpses of the sea, while the suites feature balconies or terraces overlooking the coastal panorama. And everyone benefits from the poolside vistas, as well as the garden and terrace belonging to the one-MICHELIN-Star restaurant, Rosselinis. The “pink palace of Ravello” is one of a few hotels worth going out of your way to see, and it may take some forethought: this is a small hotel, and one in high demand — not a place for a last-minute flight of fancy, but one that rewards the extra effort.
