Chef Abel Demeestere and Laurence De Smet have undertaken to respectfully write a new culinary chapter of the distinguished family story of the Arenberg establishment. This former Jesuits’ farm sports a classy modern vibe with artwork and a view of the garden. The house classics, like succulent pork neck, continue to grace the à la carte menu. Abel’s consummate grasp of traditional techniques shines through in fascinating sauces and stocks, to which he likes to add subtle international and Mediterranean nuances. Whether you order hare from the Polders served with a gutsy peppery sauce or sole cooked in a spicy stock that is reminiscent of a bouillabaisse, it is immediately obvious that EST is fully the equal of its illustrious forebear.
