A cult classic in Toronto’s vibrant West Queen West since 2004, The Drake Hotel is now twice the hotel it used to be. The original hotel, with its 19 stylish, art-filled bedrooms, is now the Classic Wing, and it’s joined by a Modern Wing: more of the same, which is a good thing, this time housed in an ultra-contemporary structure by a dream team of architects and designers.
The older rooms have a bit more of a vintage vibe, with retro furnishings and historical details, but the new rooms are just as full of personality — their furniture is custom-made, and the art and décor are anything but minimalist. The classic wing has everything from the extremely efficient Crash Pads to the spacious Salons and Suites, and the modern wing starts with cozy-but-comfortable Queen rooms and culminates in the extravagant Artist Loft.
Naturally there’s much more to the Drake than the bedrooms. The two wings are connected by the Sky Yard, a courtyard lounge bar, as well as a lobby bar and a café; chef Laura Maxwell’s menus span breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. And the Drake is an authentic arts-and-culture destination unto itself, with a museum-quality contemporary art program and a music venue, Drake Underground, that hosts up-and-coming and established acts.
