L'ASSIETTE CHAMPENOISE
40 Av. Paul Vaillant-Couturier, Reims, France
33 Rooms
Modern Design & Lively
While L’Assiette Champenoise is best known for its extraordinary restaurant, the attached hotel is notable in its own right. It's one of the only luxury hotels in a region, Champagne, that sees plenty of affluent travelers — and while dining on site is practically obligatory, these stylish family-run lodgings also serve as a practical option for those road-tripping through the wine regions of northeastern France.
From the outside, the stately mansion looks like many others in the Reims suburbs; inside, the interiors are surprisingly modern, characterized by clean lines, geometric shapes, and a moody color palette. On the ground level are various lounge areas with fireplaces, contemporary art, and modular sofas, plus a beautiful glass-walled indoor pool with floor-to-ceiling windows revealing views of the surrounding gardens. Upstairs, rooms and suites are simple but sophisticated, with colorful accent walls, sleek furniture, and lamps that glow at just the right tone for reading in bed after a day of wine tasting. Suites have extras like separate lounge space, balconies, and Jacuzzis, and the largest suite has its own hammam and private garden.
It’s a quick trip downstairs to Arnaud Lallement’s famed restaurant, and an elegant breakfast buffet is served overlooking the gardens. At any time of day, guests are welcome to sip Champagne — included with every room, naturally — on a lovely pergola-shaded patio or, in winter, by a crackling fire in one of several inviting living rooms.
