Traditional Elegance & Quiet
It’s hard to believe that the Francis House, a château-style Napa Valley gem, sat abandoned for half a century. Once a prominent merchant's house and later a hospital — some of Calistoga’s living residents were born here — the place was boarded up and graffiti-covered until the current owners discovered the property and transformed it into an elegant boutique hotel in 2018. All of the building’s interior was unsalvageable, but its original stone walls were beautifully restored making it a stand out feature of the hotel.
Inside and out, the hotel is imbued with a French country style to match the architecture. The carefully landscaped grounds include fragrant herb gardens and citrus trees, a tennis court, and a pretty swimming pool framed by cheerful red umbrellas and chaise longues. Sunlit rooms have period charm, with Chantilly lace curtains, chandeliers, antique writing desks, brass luggage racks, and vintage mirrors. But the modern amenities are notable, too, from heated floors and custom blackout curtains to Dyson hairdryers and heated Toto washlets. The hosts personally prepare breakfast at a communal table, and the stone firepit is a lovely spot to congregate after a day out exploring the surrounding wine country.
