Biarritz isn’t just about the grand seaside hotels anymore — places like the Palmito, on a walking street in the Port Vieux district, display the intimacy and informality of a small-scale boutique hotel. The interiors are tastefully Hawaiian-themed, in an homage to the town’s status as a surfing destination, and despite the urban setting, the closest beach is within walking distance. The rooms are as comfortable as they are attractive, and the Palmito Suite, a two-bedroom apartment with a terrace, splashes out in grand style. It goes without a restaurant, in classic French boutique fashion, though central Biarritz is amply supplied.
