MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

We’re the first to admit that it’s not the most dignified word in the English language, but there’s no other expression better suited than “glamping” to describing the experience on offer at the Collective resorts. Set in the eponymous hills an hour outside of Austin, Texas, Collective Hill Country is both wild and plush; its tents, built on elevated platforms, feature king beds dressed in 1,500-thread linens, en-suite bathrooms, and wood-burning stoves. The Family Suite adds a satellite tent with a pair of single beds for the kids, and you’ll have a proper desk as well as wi-fi in case you’re WFH (working from the hills).

Activities range from Collective’s own fusion of yoga and pilates to horseback tours, hikes, e-bike rides, and the Axe & Arrow Club. There’s no spa, quite, but the option of an in-room massage may prove to be a tempting one. The meals, too, are suitably impressive, with the Three Peaks Lodge restaurant handling everything from the made-to-order breakfast to an unusually refined five-course tasting menu for dinner — executive chef Laura Collins has high-end restaurant experience, and it shows.
