It’s not every day you see a Hawaiian hotel open an outpost in Japan, but that’s exactly what lies inside the gently curving façade of this blue glass tower. The Kahala Hotel & Resort commits to the theme, dressing its reception staff in leis and using Hawaiian materials and techniques in the spa. But it never lapses into Vegas-style kitsch; this is ultimately a stylish and contemporary luxury hotel with a personality that sets it apart from its neighbors. Food and beverage outlets include a Hawaiian buffet but also a pair of Japanese venues and a glamorous 14th-floor Italian restaurant.
