They call it a “hotel singular,” and it’s fair to say there’s nothing quite like it: a beautifully preserved 19th-century villa, the last of its kind on La Concha Beach in San Sebastian, Spain, meticulously restored and thoroughly renovated and now doing business as a remarkable luxury boutique hotel. La Villa Favorita stands right on the beachfront promenade, giving it a picturesque view of the bay from its many sea-facing windows.
Some rooms look out over the city, while others face directly out to sea, with full-length windows and, in some cases, terraces. The décor is a refreshing mix of contemporary and historical elements, with judicious accents in Atlantic blues against a restrained palette of neutrals. These rooms wouldn’t be out of place in a Madrid or Barcelona luxury hotel, and in seaside San Sebastian they’re nothing short of extraordinary.
And so is the cuisine. The hotel’s restaurant, Amelia by Paulo Airaudo, has earned two Michelin stars; Mr. Airaudo brings the flavors of his native Argentina (by way of Italy) to Spain’s Atlantic coast. He’s also responsible for breakfast and for the room service menu — safe to say your meals here will be memorable.
