CitizenM’s concept seems tailor-made for San Francisco: a low-frills, high-design hotel with a small footprint and a self-serve ethos, and a decided enthusiasm for upending the traditions of the hospitality world — a good fit for a town that’s constantly inventing the future. It’s a low-profile building, tucked away on a slightly underused block just above Market, but provides quick access not only to Union Square but to the Financial District, SoMa, and much more. The rooms are ultra-modern, high-tech, and comfortable in spite of their minimalism; the restaurant/bar/co-working space is open around the clock.
