The First Roma Arte

Here, just off the Via del Corso, at the First Roma Arte - by the Pavilions Hotels, you’re most comfortably ensconced in the sort of small luxury hotel that seems only to exist in Rome, where near-impossible refinement and cozy residential atmosphere go naturally hand in hand. And then, on top of that, the place is simply drenched in art.

By which we mean not just a smattering of art books in the lobby and the occasional print in the corridor, but a whole library full of art books and an enormous amount of artwork in the rooms, all of it by Roman artists and all of it, in case you’re wondering, for sale. You might just find the high-end retailers on the Via del Corso have a little bit of competition when it comes to separating you from your Euros.

Not that the commercial touch is obligatory. There’s much more to Rome, and to Roman hospitality, than shopping. This is a fine location for sightseeing as well, and while you won’t have much in the way of views, that’s very much in keeping with the local custom — in this busy town privacy is the greatest luxury, and the best hotels seem to face inward.

Also in keeping with the local custom is the roof garden, a classic Roman luxury that’s not to be passed up when you can get it. The famed hustle and bustle of Roman street life is inescapable, after all, once you’ve ventured out of doors, so why not keep the indoors as peaceful as possible? And even when it’s time to go out, one needn’t go all the way out — Acquolina, the hotel’s restaurant, has been awarded two Michelin stars, and is joined by the more casual Acquaroof, an all-day lounge with a light menu.
