The Yeatman is elegant and luxurious, often considered the best place to stay in the Porto area — in part for its charms as a luxury hotel, and in part for its restaurant’s two Michelin stars. It’s set on a green hill overlooking the Douro River, and among its many highlights are indoor and outdoor infinity pools, a spa with Roman-style baths, and wine cellars with guided tastings. The history of winemaking in the region is a subtle theme throughout the cheerfully painted but thoroughly refined guest rooms and suites. Each has a private balcony or terrace in addition to a spacious marble bathroom with a deep soaking tub and a separate shower; top-end suites have over-the-top luxuries, like a domed wooden bed that resembles an enormous oak barrel for aging wine.
