The wooden furniture has a rustic look, with comforts such as large closets and four-poster beds banishing any thought of this being a vacation retreat for young people, despite the large number of surfers on Praia Mole. At the top of the apartment chain is the one-bedroom Loft suite with its own living room and a private mini-pool on the rooftop and the new Royal suite, richly dressed in a Portuguese style with period furnishings, silk jacquard curtains, and crystal chandeliers. Couples on a romantic trip should consider the Master suite, where they'll find things like bath salts and candles. Bathrooms are a place where the retro vibe is less than desirable, and here, fortunately, they've gone for 5-star modernity, with two sinks, adjustable showers, Victorian baths and glass doors.
In a nod to local tradition, guests who place an order the night before wake up to an in-room Portuguese breakfast served on blue porcelain. While Quinta das Videiras is miles more sedate than the larger resort hotels, its proximity to the Lagoa da Conceicao — the lagoon in the center of the island — situates it within easy walking distance of the city’s vibrant nightlife.
