The Regent brand may ring some bells for longtime hotel heads — during the Seventies and Eighties it was a byword for the absolute top tier of luxury hospitality. Now it’s back, under the IHG banner, and hotels like the Regent Phu Quoc are a powerful statement of Regent’s intent to recapture the crown. This one, on a white sand beach on Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island, cuts no corners and spares no expense; it’s easy to imagine other hoteliers might have done something slightly different with the site, but it seems unlikely anyone could have done it better.
In proper luxury-resort style the Regent Phu Quoc has no mere rooms; the accommodations here are all suites or villas, and they’re uniformly spacious, stylish, and extremely comfortable. Many come with private pools, others open onto the lagoon pools that wind across the property, and none are more than a few steps from the beach.
A lavish spa is present as a matter of course, and the Regent’s yacht, Serenity, is available for hire. Multiple restaurants serve everything from Vietnamese and Chinese cooking to a Japanese-French concept at Oku; the Fu Bar opens onto a rooftop pool terrace and is blessed with a panoramic ocean view.
