Modern Design & Lively
Kyoto’s Marufukuro Hotel occupies a 1930s building that was once home to Nintendo’s corporate headquarters. (The Nintendo Playing Card Co. sign still stands on an exterior wall.) Its interior renovation and its modern annex are the work of the modernist architect Tadao Ando. All 18 rooms and suites vary in size and style, but are uniformly attractive and well-equipped. The library is full of materials related to Nintendo’s history, while the restaurant, Carta, serves 'New Western' cuisine with Japanese ingredients and seasonings under the direction of chef and author Ai Hosokawa.
Please note: There will be construction on the east side of the hotel October 1, 2024 to October 30, 2025. There may be some noise and vibrations during the day, however hotel operations will not be affected.
