MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

It’s hard to go really wrong with the islands of Greece, but it’s equally hard to do much better than this. Domes Zeen Chania, on the northwest coast of Crete, is not only blessed with a spectacular natural setting — it’s also outfitted with top-flight luxury comforts, and thanks to its designers, the Berlin-based Lambs and Lions, it’s one of the most aesthetically distinguished hotels in the region, its modernist geometries warmed by natural textures and warm, earthy neutral tones.

Professional service, too, is a strength, thanks to Domes’ affiliation with Marriott’s Luxury Collection. The accommodations range from generously sized bungalows to larger pavilions and truly vast villas; all come with lavish spa-like bathrooms, as well as outdoor space in the form of balconies or terraces, and some add private pools and extra bedrooms.

“Zeen” is a reference to the ancient Greek idea of the good life, and it’s offered in many forms here, from the Jungle Spa to the restaurants, the light and casual Beach House and the fine-dining Estia. And there’s plenty to keep the kids busy while you focus on your own zeen — they’ll have their own pool as well as a long list of supervised activities.
