Hotel Eiger Mürren
The Eiger has been in the same family since it opened, all the way back in 1886. Clearly they must be doing something right, and it all comes down to a focus on the fundamentals. The service is warm, the rooms simple and functional, and all the basic ski resort amenities are there, from a sunny indoor pool and jacuzzi with views of the mountains to a couple pleasant restaurants serving hearty Swiss fare and European classics. (Think warm fondue and steak Bearnaise.)
This isn’t a place you come looking for avant-garde design theatrics or a Dom-popping après-ski scene — more like floral-print curtains and a cozy, almost homey little bar. And that’s fine. The idea is more to relax and rest up between days on the trails. Book well and, even when you’re indoors, the mountains will feel every bit as present, with their snow-capped peaks on view from bed.
Please note: Hotel Eiger Mürren closes each year in April and May.
How to get there:
The hotel is located directly across from the Mürren train station, and a five-minute walk from the center of the village. Alternatively, take the funicular from the town of Lauterbrunnen. The village is not accessible by car.
