Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast is a justifiably famous destination, and like all justifiably famous destinations it is prone to a bit of crowding during the high season. No such affliction befalls Maslina Resort, however; its position, just outside the UNESCO-listed town of Stari Grad, itself set on a protected bay on the west side of the island of Hvar, affords it a generous measure of seclusion — and the verdant landscaping and modernist simplicity of the architecture take care of the rest.
Each of Maslina’s 53 rooms, suites, and villas looks out over the water, and the interiors, however handsome, stay restrained, the better to draw the eye outward. The style combines Nordic-inspired minimalism with pure Mediterranean warmth, and though they’re visually somewhat spartan, the comforts verge on the indulgent.
There’s a well-equipped Buddhist-inspired spa, as well as a pair of outdoor pools, and a beach with direct access to the bay. For light daytime fare there’s a beach bar, and an indoor bar for evening revelry, while the hotel’s main restaurant serves fresh Mediterranean fare, featuring many ingredients grown in the hotel’s own organic garden.
