You’ll arrive by boat, as it’s set on Isola delle Rose, a separate island from the rest of bustling Venice — this isolation, obviously, plays to its strengths, which are luxe tranquility and splendid seclusion. Designer Matteo Thun has transformed this century-old sanatorium into an impressively contemporary luxury boutique hotel, and one with all the bells and whistles: a day spa, a couple of swimming pools, four restaurants, and a cooking academy. If you can handle being twenty minutes from St. Mark’s Square, then it’s hard to imagine doing Venice any other way.
