On the edge of Hoge Kempen National Park, near the border of Belgium and the Netherlands, the elegant Domaine La Butte aux Bois occupies a historic estate that dates back to 1924. Rooms and suites are spread out across three buildings: Le Manoir, the grand villa that once served as a nobleman’s residence and also houses the hotel’s dining venues, the more contemporary La Villa, overlooking a small lake, and La Forêt, the newest of the three, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the surrounding forest. All feature sophisticated interiors with neutral color palettes and refined materials; a few in the main building stand out with creative themes, like the Jewel Suite Missoni, stylistically inspired by the Italian designer, and the Moonlight Suite with its circular sleeping nook and simulated starry sky.
A lavish breakfast spread is laid out each morning in Le Ciel bistro, which also serves a relaxed lunch and dinner, and the sultry Bar Papillon next door pours champagne and cocktails all day, which is the perfect way to start the evening before dining at gastronomic restaurant La Source. Outdoor yoga and meditation classes are offered each morning, and cycling, hiking, and walking trails await in the surrounding hills.
