Heidelberg has an unusually high concentration of hotels, thanks in part to the landmark Heidelberg Castle, which attracts a million visitors each year. The city’s most luxurious hotel, Hotel Europäischer Hof Heidelberg, plays a part in that history: it first opened in 1865 to host aristocratic guests attending events at the nearby castle.
