The green hill that is Montjuïc, rising up over Barcelona, was famously chosen as the site of the 1929 World’s Fair; the cable-car journey to the top is worthwhile for the museums, botanical gardens, and of course, the views. The InterContinental Barcelona, opened in 2021, offers luxury lodgings for those who’d rather stay up in this elegant district overlooking the Mediterranean. The hotel has plenty to like, from a rooftop pool and open-air bar with glittering views over the city to a restaurant by Victor Torres, the youngest chef in Spain to earn a MICHELIN Star. The common spaces are pristine and modern, with lots of white marble and eye-catching light fixtures, and rooms and suites adhere to a similar aesthetic.
