Contemporary Classic & Happening
Just a few paces from the line separating the French Quarter from the Marigny, where Frenchmen Street meets Esplanade Avenue, is a small hotel that turns the Gallic inspiration up to ten. The Frenchmen Hotel is a set of three cottages, now painted a matching robin’s-egg blue, divided into just 27 rooms which together comprise an impressively intimate and beautifully atmospheric boutique hotel.

The interiors are unified in their color scheme and their aesthetic, but each room is different, owing to the details of these historical structures. In size they range from relatively modest to downright palatial; the finest ones have loft bedrooms or balconies at the front of the building looking over Frenchmen Street. The comforts are substantial, but the vibe is more boutique than luxury — that’ll suit guests just fine, as you don’t come to the Marigny to get away from it all.

Instead you come for the energy, the street life, and, above all, the nightlife. Live music is a necessity here, and the Frenchmen’s bar, Midnight Revival, doubles as a jazz venue. There’s a second bar on the rooftop, serving craft cocktails in the open air. And while there’s no restaurant in-house, the neighborhood has that angle more than covered.
