It’s not as easy as it perhaps ought to be to get some proper peace and quiet in Mallorca. On the east side of the island, though, about as far as it’s possible to get from the capital, Palma, you’ll find a rural village called Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. And where this village gives way to an endless expanse of countryside you’ll find a delightfully quiet little farmhouse hotel: Son Penya Adults Only Petit Hotel & Spa. In classic Balearic country style, Son Penya makes liberal use of natural stone and timber, and the interior color palette carries on in a similar selection of warm neutrals. The look is minimalist but not sparse, and certainly not cold — the materials are too organic for that. The spa comes complete with a heated pool, hammam, and sauna, in addition to massages and beauty treatments. And the restaurant, the opaquely named 5’S, serves a hearty and unpretentious breakfast in the morning and, by night, an extravagantly colorful menu of modern haute cuisine, accompanied by well-selected Mallorcan wines.
