Tennerhof
Since 1929, the Pasquali family has been decorating the thirty-nine guest rooms with heirlooms and antiques that reflect the heritage of the region. Even if you’re normally allergic to the storybook charms and whimsy of ornate wardrobes and headboards painted with pastel scenery, suspend your initial reaction for a closer look — this is priceless handmade stuff, not kitsch. At the higher end, suites tend to be a bit more subdued, with big glass doors opening out onto private terraces. It goes without saying that the Alpine view is magnificent, and skiers will find the quick walk to the Kitzbüheler slopes to be a blessing.
The hotel’s restaurant specializes in romantic candlelight dinners, which can be enjoyed on the terrace when it’s not covered in snow. The wine cellar is suitably expansive, with plenty of opportunity for regional pairings with the restaurant’s original creations. Make no mistake: this is a sumptuous experience, so if you’re craving a utilitarian ski-bum retreat, you’d be better served elsewhere. To put it another way, if you’re likely to cap off a long day on the slopes with a trip to the sauna and a glass of excellent wine, then this is the hotel for you.
