It would be hard to imagine a more distinguished setting for a hotel in Chihuahua than this, right in the heart of the historic city center, next to the Plaza de Armas and the 18th-century cathedral. And the Central Hotel Boutique makes its home in a distinguished building as well: Casa Trías dates back to 1845, and is the city’s oldest estate-style courtyard house. And today, after more than two decades under its present ownership, it’s attained some distinction as a hotel: this is by a considerable distance the most stylish and most luxurious lodging in town.
Each of the Central’s eleven rooms is named for a different poet, and integrates modern furniture, contemporary decoration, antique architectural details, and prosaic (though welcome) comforts like Nespresso machines and Bose sound systems. El Poeta, the restaurant, pursues the theme even further, its well-worn, atmospheric space providing a backdrop for a sophisticated and creative take on the classic flavors of Chihuahua and the Sierra Tarahumara. And a less elevated version of the same cuisine is in plentiful supply all around you — from here, thanks to the central location, all of the old city’s sights are more or less right at your feet.
